Price, UT is a peaceful town with old western charm and surrounding landscapes reminiscent of wild west cowboy movies. Nearby, you’ll find impressive stretches of desert, dramatic canyons, and mountainous state parks. There are plenty of excellent outdoor activities to do, both in town and nearby. Read on to learn the best of them.

Washington Park

The town’s best park offers broad, well-cultivated stretches of lawn on which you can play frisbee and ball games, or relax for a picnic. There’s a great playground for kids and also a disc golf course in the closely neighboring Pioneer Park. Washington Park’s best attraction is its popular Desert Wave Pool, a giant swimming pool with artificial waves, where kids can have a whale of a time, and even go for swimming lessons.

Nine Mile Canyon

If you’re looking for more of an educational experience on your outing, head to this amazing outdoor museum. The canyon is filled with fascinating remnants of ancient Native Indian artwork drawn over the stone of cavern walls. There are also the remains of Native Indian dwellings to explore.

The primitive art in this canyon has survived the centuries in such fine condition that it’s been featured in National Geographic. You’ll need to bring water and food as the canyon really is off the beaten track, away from all amenities, which adds to the sense of stepping into the ancient past as you enter the canyon.

Scofield Reservoir State Park

One of Utah’s best fisheries lies just a short drive from Price. In Scofield Reservoir State Park you’ll find excellent spots to cast your line and angle for rainbow trout and cutthroat. There are a couple of well-equipped campgrounds in the park if you’d like to stay a little longer than just a day.

For anyone seeking a more in-depth venture into the great outdoors, you can use this state park as a base point to explore the nearby Skyline Drive mountains. There, you can traverse the many rivers and lakes among the peaks, and even go big game hunting.

North Springs Shooting Range

Inspired by the region’s old west history, this world-class shooting range is much-loved by shooting enthusiasts throughout Utah and farther afield. You can practice using, or learn from scratch, a whole variety of firearms and shooting styles. These include pistol shooting, long-range shooting, and archery.

The design of the Castle Gate Town area of the range will make you think you’ve stepped into a Clint Eastwood movie. The structures and props are all made up to match the style of that time, with 15 shooting bays and over 200 steel targets to aim at.

Price Canyon Recreational Area

This beautiful natural area is thick with bristlecone pine trees, one of the longest living lifeforms on Earth. The rugged, rocky, canyon country here makes for very enjoyable hiking. There’s a campground with 12 spots for tents, each complete with a fire ring and picnic table. The blissful seclusion of this natural haven makes it the perfect place for anyone who wants to escape the bustle of town life for a little while.
